The Woodlands recently welcomed two reality television singing competition winners to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

The original American Idol, Kelly Clarkson brought her “Piece by Piece” tour along with Pentatonix, who won The Sing-Off on NBC in 2011. Opening acts included Eric Hutchinson and Abi Ann.

Eric Hutchinson is no stranger to being on tour with Kelly Clarkson.

He joined her previously on her 2009 & 2010 world tours. He brought a certain energy while onstage in his powder blue suit that sealed his status as a worthy tour mate.

Crowd favorites included their version of “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit. Their “Evolution of Michael Jackson” had everyone on their feet, singing along and cheering.

To open her show, Clarkson performed “Dance With Me” from her newest album. The track was upbeat and fast paced and went straight into “My Life Would Suck Without You”, an iconic Clarkson tune that had the entire Pavilion singing along.

Although her current tour is meant to promote her latest album, the singer did a great job of mixing new tracks with old hits to keep the audience fully engaged.

While the early set focused on upbeat and danceable songs, the show took on a more serious note as Clarkson changed into a ball gown and sang some stripped down and emotional tracks, narrated with her personal stories. Clarkson got choked up during her performance of “Piece by Piece”, a song she wrote about her childhood experiences and her wishes for her own daughter.

Highlights of the show included Clarkson letting one of her backup dancers take the mic and cover the Whitney Houston classic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”, Pentatonix joined her onstage for “Heartbeat Song” and her mash-up of “Walk Away” with the Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars mega-hit “Uptown Funk”.

She closed her show with some of her biggest hits “Miss Independent” and “Since U Been Gone”, with the crowd singing so loudly, you almost couldn’t hear Clarkson herself.

Overall, Clarkson put on a fantastic show filled with emotion. She made you laugh, dance and maybe even cry a little. If you get the chance to see Kelly on tour, take it…you won’t be disappointed!
