Liz Fenton is someone from our local community who is always helping others. She’s an avid foodie who is very well known in the local food and restaurant scene and has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for her friends and her community when in need.

She’s spent hundreds of hours volunteering within the local food community to help create what the foodie scene and industry has become in the area today.

In addition to her enormous appetite (for food and life), selfless nature and generous spirit, Liz has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for her friends and community when they were in need.” – Jenny Wang[/quote]

“Liz is one of Houston’s greatest supporters of our local cuisine. She can be found at most food events” said Jason Hill of H – Town – StrEATs. “She is a fountain of information on restaurants and has been known to tackle 50 lbs. of crawfish at a single seating. She is also a person that touches the heart of all she meets and I am personally enriched by knowing her.”

Liz has been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called transverse myelitis which is a neurological condition in which the spinal cord is inflamed. The inflammation damages nerve fibers, and causes them to lose their myelin coating leading to decreased electrical conductivity in the central nervous system.

This rare disorder has caused permanent disability making it difficult for her to move and she is continuously losing more functionality due to paresthesia, chronic pain and partial paralysis which is only a short list of her ongoing symptoms.

Recently Liz learned that her condition is due to a spinal cord tumor that will have to be removed by a very invasive spinal surgery which removes a section of her spinal cord, and she will have to undergo aggressive treatments including chemo therapy and possibly others. The biopsy alone is enough to cause a debilitating condition which inhibits work for her. Liz is currently seeking a neuro-oncologist that will take her case.

Jenny Wang, a friend of Liz’s set up a GoFundMe account which has at this point raised $36,970 of $50,000 from numerous contributors which you can find at https://www.gofundme.com/Liz_Fenton.

Liz Fenton Go Fund Me

This has been a great amount raised so far, but we all know the price of medical care is very expensive, and for the kind of surgery she’ll need, we’re not even close yet to raising the amount that’ll be needed.

Brandon Woll of the Bernie’s Backyard family said, “Bernie’s Backyard is a place that likes to pitch in and help others and the community in any way we can, and this is the perfect opportunity for us all to help someone in need.”

The Benefit for Liz Fenton Christmas Spectacular at Bernie’s Backyard will take place on December 20th from 12pm – 8pm.

All event proceeds will benefit Liz Fenton as well as 5% of all food and beer sales will be donated.

Please invite everyone you know, as we’ll be raising money to help Liz Fenton get the care she needs to hopefully overcome this condition.

The atmosphere at Bernie’s is always Family and kid friendly! There will be numerous vendors on site plus more!
