The Woodlands LearningRX Now Offers Bilingual Testing: Access Cognitive Skills En Espanol

THE WOODLANDS LEARNINGRX NOW OFFERS BILINGUAL TESTING ACCESS COGNITIVE SKILLS EN ESPANOLTHE WOODLANDS, TX – There are several advantages to having a bilingual brain, Kim Bellini, owner of The Woodlands LearningRx, explained. In fact, a study conducted by York University in Toronto reveals that bilingual patients did not contract Alzheimer’s until five years later than their counterparts.
“The study showed that when a person knows two languages, the brain tends to be more active most of the time,” Bellini said. “The constant level of activity means minds are exercising more and therefore stay in better mental shape.” Still, bilingual students often face special challenges – and it is often difficult to identify learning struggles in a child who is busy translating back and forth.

In an effort to help bilingual children reach their highest potential, The Woodlands LearningRx is now offering an assessment in Spanish, testing students’ strengths and weaknesses in cognitive skills like attention, memory, processing speed, and problem solving.

“Even though our program is conducted in English, we want the most accurate assessment results possible,” Bellini said. “We want to know exactly if a child has a language barrier or a true learning difficulty.”

She explained that it is important to identify learning difficulties early on. “As time passes, learning struggles can get worse,” she said. “Students may end up falling through the cracks.” The good news is that cognitive skills can be improved, Bellini explained.

“We find a lot of ‘undiscovered’ learning issues through our assessment process,” she said. “Even straight-A students can have some weak skills, which could become problematic down the line.”

The Woodlands LearningRx offers one-on-one training to enhance weak skills and help students succeed in school.
