HOUSTON, TX – Arts education organization Young Audiences of Houston will honor Dr. Stephen Klineberg, Rice University Professor and Co-Director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at its annual gala on April 16, 2014, at the River Oaks Country Club. Each year Young Audiences of Houston recognizes an outstanding Houstonian for his or her part in positively impacting the lives of Houston-area youth. Previous honorees have included Mark Wallace, CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital and a long-time Young Audiences collaborator, and Beatrice Graham, a leader on the Young Audiences of Houston education committee. Dr. Klineberg, who received an M.A. in Psychopathology from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Harvard, was selected for his work on the Houston Arts Survey, an unprecedented survey of Harris County residents’ attitude toward the arts and a useful tool for arts and arts education advocates.

Honorary co-chairs of this year’s gala, Bourbon Street Boogie, are Bobby and Phoebe Tudor, Houston philanthropic leaders known for their dedication to arts and education causes. Mr. Tudor serves as the Chairman and CEO of Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., LLC., and Mrs. Tudor is a preservation and restoration advocate who received the 2013 Mayor’s Citizen Award for Historic Preservation. Bourbon Street Boogie offers an evening of live arts entertainment, a seated dinner, and the sights and sounds of New Orleans. Sharon Bryan is serving as chair of the gala.
